To Write, or Not to Write… That is the Question!
It’s June 30th, I’ve been writing every single day since May 15th, and when I woke up this morning I didn’t feel like writing. I almost didn’t put my fingers on these keys. I wanted to just take Gizmo outside as he demanded me to, but I didn’t. Instead I chose to log into my very neglected website, and write a post about not wanting to write. Kidding.
I came here to tell you all about what I’ve been working on for the last month and a half, and about how each day truly motivated, and inspired me, because I knew it was inspiring other writers. That’s really what keeps me going. Inspiring and motivating other creatives, to create. It’s such an amazing feeling. Which leads us to…
Prose, Prose (Prose)
In 2019 I stumbled across The Literal Challenge, and they put on some amazing writing challenges. One of them was called Like the Prose, and it ran every June until it’s finale in June of 2021. I was heartbroken. It was one of my favourite writing challenges, and so I decided in early 2022 that I was going to start a new short story challenge, and called it, Prose, Prose (Prose).
The rules are quite simple: you will receive a prompt starting on May 31st, and then you will have 36 hours to put pen to paper, or your fingers on the keys and write something new. Most of the prompts will have you writing a short story, but you also may find yourself facing some unexpected ‘hurdles’…
In 2022 I had ten other writers join, and this year there were over FORTY writers that signed up. Some preferred my old school method of me just sending them a daily email, and others bravely subscribed to our newest Substack channel writo inspo and you should too! Yes you!!
What is writo inspo you ask?
The writo inspo newsletter (w.i.n) via Substack is here to provide you with regular writing prompts and resources, paired with motivation and accountability check-ins. It’s hard being a creative on your own, but the good news is, you’re not alone! We all have blank pages, a need for a nudge and some encouragement. That’s why we’ve created the writo inspo newsletter.
For a little creative magic in your inbox… A w.i.n we can all share!
The Who’s Who of writo inspo:
Myself and Rebecca Holbourn are the creative minds behind the curtain, and running the show. It’s been a little over a year since our first newsletter, but we’ve come a long way after encountering a few hiccups. We are determined to ramp up the challenges this year beginning with writo inspo wordo which will launch tomorrow, July 1st!
Other Challenges
We have a few ideas for other challenges that we will be hosting this year, and in the years to come. As mentioned above, writo inspo wordo is for anyone looking for a simple prompt and nudge towards creativity. Whether you’re a writer, a doodler or a capture clicker, this challenge is to encourage you to create something new with only one word to start your inspirational journey!
We also plan on hosting Camp writo inspo in August, which will hopefully inspire and motivate writers and other creatives to write an entire novel, or write a poetry book, or perhaps finish a painting. The goal is to get the creative juices flowing across all artistic avenues.
What Else?
My plan is to write a new blog post twice per month, and self-publish a new book before November. On July 9th I will be selling my books and wares at Walking on Wednesday in uptown Amherst, Ohio. Come on out to see me and other local vendors. We will be open from 4 pm – 7:30 pm along with all the local boutiques, restaurants, and more!
Don’t forget that you can also purchase any of my self-published novels from my online bookstore: Purple Elephant Publishing!
If you are still reading, thank you, and if you haven’t already please like and subscribe to my blog and don’t forget to subscribe to writo inspo. And if you haven’t already done so, get out there and do something creative today!
Cheerio,
Renee
